If your child is due to start primary school for the first time, or move to secondary school in September 2027, you need to apply for a school place and familiarise yourself with the admissions process.
As part of our role supporting Service families with education matters, the Education Advisory Team UK (EATUK) has produced information to help families understand the admissions process, key application deadlines and where to access further support.
School admissions arrangements and deadlines vary across the UK. For families applying for school places in England, applications close on:
- 31 October 2026 for secondary school places
- 15 January 2027 for primary school places
We encourage families to review the guidance and ensure they are aware of the admissions arrangements that apply to their circumstances or location.
