Admissions
Admissions
We accept children from ages 3 – 11 (Pre-school to Year 6) in single year class groups.
If you would like to apply to our school, we strongly recommend that you contact our School Office on: +32 65 44 5283 or [email protected] to register your interest. Our staff will be happy to talk to you about our school, the admissions process and any concerns that you may have about moving to SHAPE. If you are UK Military/Civil Service, please be aware that in order to accept your child into our school, we require you to complete and return a Educational Supportability Assessment Request (ESAR) Form 101 for use with Defence Children Services.
School admissions process
- Contact the School office to register your interest.
- Complete and return the DCS Assessment of Support Needs Information Leaflet 100.
Once you have registered your interest, an OES Form 102 is sent directly to your child’s current school for completion. Information requested through the OES Form 102 is used to manage a child’s transition to an overseas-based school or setting.
The OES Form 101 enables the Head Teacher to make a decision on allocation. Once a place is allocated the Head Teacher will issue you with ‘Confirmation of Educational Supportability’ which you will require prior to your move. If we do not receive your child’s OES Form 101 and OES Form 102 prior to arrival, unfortunately, your child may not be able to start at our school.
If you are not UK Military/Civil Service and would like to apply to our school, please note our Admissions Policy and contact our School Office on +32 65 44 5283 or [email protected] for more information.
We look forward to welcoming you and your family to SHAPE and our school.

Our school is an integral part of the SHAPE International School (SIS) and is situated on a large campus made up of 11 national sections with approximately 2,500 students overall. Some sections cater for both Elementary (Primary) and Secondary age pupils. The British Section takes only those children of Primary school age (3 – 11 years). As such we benefit from shared facilities such as large playgrounds, SHAPE sports fields, tennis courts and swimming pool, in addition to our own discrete facilities including amongst others, generous sized classrooms for our younger pupils, garden areas, computing suite, music room, French room, Library and a large hall with a purpose built stage.
We share our building with the Canadian Section. Our shared spaces are the library and main hall, whilst all classes remain separate and they follow their Canadian curriculum. However, we do have a shared ethos of the UK-CAN Promise a philosophy to promote a caring and respectful relationship within school.
The British Section is a one form entry Primary School (one class in each year group) with approximately 20 pupils in each class, although this does depend on families assigned to SHAPE. The numbers on roll are traditionally around 160 pupils. While FS2 (Reception class) Key Stages 1 and 2 are housed within the main school building in 701/702, the British Section operates a FS1 (Pre-school) for children aged 3-4 years within the International Kindergarten of SIS. This is a purpose built facility for young children and is situated approximately 300m from the British Section main building.
The British Section is part of DCS Schools which is part of the MOD. The English National Curriculum is taught and the school is also subject to regular Ofsted Inspections by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education. The school was last inspected in February 2014 and was described in the resulting report as “outstanding”.
Please look through the photos for an idea of our facilities. Obviously nothing compares to an actual visit where you can see for yourself the attractive learning environment, the calm, focussed atmosphere and seeing the children enjoying their learning.
Please contact the school office if you would like to arrange a visit on: 0032 65 445283.
