DCS follows the Department for Education’s guidance to school leaders on sharing school and setting policies with parents. Please see the DCS Policies, Directives and Forms page to access policies which all DCS schools and settings adhere to.

Local Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Information

At Akrotiri School we aim to provide an inclusive education in which all children and young people are encouraged to flourish and achieve their full potential.

Quality first teaching and high-quality universal support is an essential element in this, along with the recognition that some children will require additional or adapted provision to minimise barriers to learning and maximise progress.

How will we communicate with you?

 The majority of our communication with parent/carers is via the MyChildAtSchool (MCAS) App. This platform is used for:

  • Messages
  • Publishing important documents
  • Announcements
  • School diary events
  • Gaining parental consents
  • Setting homework
  • Head Teacher weekly newsletters (Friday Feeling)

Parents/carers are also able to use the app to contact the school office and class teachers. If we need to contact a parent/carer immediately, we will contact them via telephone.

In FS1 and FS2, children’s observations are uploaded to the Famly App which gives parents/carers the opportunity to see their child’s progress. They can reach out to the class teacher directly via this app, as well as via the MCAS app.

Children receive termly reports in Autumn and Spring in addition to their annual report in the Summer. Parent/Carers are invited in to school to talk about their child(ren)’s progress in both terms.

We often invite parents into their child(ren)’s classrooms to see what they have been learning about and to interact with them in their current educational activities.

We offer an open-door policy where parents can access class teachers and/or the Head Teacher subject to availability.

We also operate a Facebook page which has announcements and reviews of what we’ve been up to.

School uniform

It is so important that all pupils look smart and wear the correct uniform. As you are aware, wearing uniform increases a sense of belonging and pride as well as being extremely practical. We need all parents to support us in ensuring all pupils wear the correct school attire. We understand that uniform can be expensive so the jumpers with our logos on are optional, however, the correct colour cardigans and jumpers must be worn.

Cardigans and jumpers must be the correct colour and hoodies should not be worn.

Footwear: plain black/white shoes where possible.
