Local Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Information

DCS Schools and Settings are committed to inclusion and aim for all our children to thrive and achieve their potential. We follow the graduated approach to SEND provision. All children will follow a supportability process on entry, which will clarify what is available for support in our location.

Parental Partnership

In Cyprus, across all four locations, we foster strong, respectful, and transparent partnerships with parents. This is crucial to ensuring a successful Early Years’ experience, enabling children to flourish during this vital stage of their development. To cultivate this important relationship between the key person and the child, we conduct home visits before the child even steps through our doors. Meeting the child in their familiar environment sets a solid foundation. This home visit is complemented by two complimentary settling-in sessions, with additional support available if needed to ease the transition.

At Early Years in Cyprus, we consistently invite parents into the classroom whenever possible. We organise termly parent workshops, stay-and-play sessions, and face-to-face meetings to keep parents engaged and informed.

During the Spring term, we distribute parental questionnaires to gather feedback, as we value your insights. Your comments significantly influence our practices and drive our development.

Over time, we have observed the profound positive impact of strong partnerships between parents and our setting on children’s learning outcomes.

How will we communicate with you?

We provide an online learning journey through a platform called Famly, creating an effective communication loop between practitioners and families. This tool offers families insight into their children’s learning and facilitates connections between home and the setting, allowing for the sharing of important information. Through Famly, we can share your child’s ‘wow’ moments on the same day they occur, while also providing flexibility to highlight classroom activities and community interactions. The messaging feature on the app enables you to contact your child’s class directly. On the Famly app, you can:

  • View your child’s observations, safely documented by their key person, with a focus on well-being, learning, and development, all in alignment with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
  • Share photos and messages that contribute to your child’s learning record, showcasing activities you have engaged in outside the nursery.
  • Receive updates on your child’s naps, snacks, and care routines.
  • Inform us via the app if your child is unwell and unable to attend their session.
  • RSVP instantly for events, such as Stay and Play sessions. All on a handy app that can be added to your phone or other devices.
