Local Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Information

Defence Children Services are committed to inclusion and aim for all our children to thrive and achieve their potential. We follow the graduated approach to SEND provision and all children will follow a supportability process on entry that will clarify the support available in our location.

How will we communicate with you?

We meet and greet our children into school every day and are available to speak to parents. Our door is always open, but if you need to make an appointment, our office team will arrange that for you.

We use our weekly school newsletter to communicate and share important news with all our families.

Parents of children in our Foundation Stage class receive a weekly update from the class teacher.

Transport

British Forces Cyprus has invested heavily in making safe walking routes to school with the result that all the students living in Dhekelia now walk to and from school each day. There are buses each day for all of our students who live in Ayios Nikolaos and Nicosia. The exact timings of the buses may change and should be checked with the relevant Familie’s Office. The return buses leave school at 14.00 each day. There is also a late bus for any students staying behind for extracurricular activities. This bus leaves at 15.00 each day.

Parents need to register their children with the relevant Family’s office before the start of the school year. Whilst the School can assist with any concerns regarding bus transport, the buses are the responsibility of the Garrison and are not contracted by the school.

Extra Curricular Activities

King Richard School offers a rich extra curricular programme to enhance day to day learning that takes place in the classroom. This ranges from residential visits to other countries, student exchanges, visits in Cyprus to historic sites, Model United Nations and Geo-Cashing to sporting fixtures and clubs.
As many of our students travel to us on school buses (from Nicosia and Ayios Nikolaos), we have a late bus that runs each night to allow them to join in with our extra curricular programmes.
