Local Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Information
Defence Children Services are committed to inclusion and aim for all our children to thrive and achieve their potential.
At Hornbill School Brunei, we aim to provide an inclusive education in which all children and young people are encouraged to flourish and achieve their full potential.
We follow the graduated approach to SEND provision and all children will follow a supportability process on entry that will clarify the support available in our location. Quality first teaching and high-quality universal support is an essential element in this, along with the recognition that some children will require additional or adapted provision to minimise barriers to learning and maximise progress.
Our SENDCO (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator) is Mrs Sujata Dewan, is contactable through the school office using the below contact form.
Please read our SEND Information Report for local SEND information.
For more detailed information regarding SEND within Defence Children Services, please visit the SEND page.
How will we communicate with you?
The majority of our communication with parent/carers is via email. This will be used to share:
- Messages
- Important documents
- Announcements
- School diary events
- Publishing Head Teacher newsletters
Parents/carers wishing to contact their child’s teacher are requested to either telephone the school directly or use the below contact form.
In FS1 and FS2, communication is done via the Famly App which gives parents/carers the opportunity to see their child’s progress. They can reach out to the class teacher directly via this app.
We offer an open door policy where parents/carers can access class teachers and/or members of the senior leadership team.
School uniform
Hornbill School children have a school uniform, which they are proud to wear. The uniform shows that they belong to our school and that they are ambassadors who represent us and our standards, when they wear it during visits and outside events. All items are available for purchase from the school office. Children attending Treetops and FS1 do not wear uniforms.
Logo Items: Orange hats, blue polo shirts, orange PE shirts and blue PE shorts are only available from school. These are required for pupils from FS2 to Year 6 for academic year 2024/25.
Grey trousers and skirts are available from school; however, parents can purchase these items from any supplier. Blue gingham dresses are optional and can be purchased from any other supplier.
Swim shorts and swimsuits can be purchased from school or any supplier and are required for children from FS2. Please note – classes do not swim for the whole academic year.
